Dear Parents,
Welcome to Shiv Vani, a school that cares, a school that shares and a school that dares! 2011 is a landmark year in the school’s history as it completes thirty years of existence. In this thirty year odyssey, the school has established its forte, i.e. combining the strength of tradition with the daring to embrace the latest strides in educational methodology and technology.
As you might be aware, our school has whole-heartedly adopted the recent educational reforms initiated by the CBSE, viz the system of Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) systems for all classes. It is our endeavor to provide a stress free and joyful learning environment for our students especially in the primary classes. So, from the 2011-12 session, terminal exams will be discontinued for classes I-V. Evaluation will be through assessment of worksheets, periodic tests, checklists, students portfolios, anecdotal records etc. thus, the student’s participation in class, house and club activities, morning assembly/display board duties, group discussions, project work etc. will carry due weight age. Implementing the CCE system will thus allow learning to become experiential and the observation of the student’s life skills, emotional skills and social skills will enable teachers to look at children as children.
This almanac will provide a vital link of communication between you and us and we hope that you continue to remain involved in your child’s education. The schedule for periodic unit tests for classes I to V, class tests for Formative Assessments from classes VI to X and XI & XII are attached in the following green pages.
To conclude, I reaffirm mine, the entire 130+ staff’s and the Management’s commitment to our common goal-nurturing the students so that they start thinking out of the box and scale greater heights of creativity and achievement.

The School is an English medium, Co-educational school, recognized by Govt. of NCT of Delhi vide letter no. 1725/2-23 dated 10/06/1991 & affiliated to CBSE (Affiliation No. 2730166) for All India Secondary & Senior School Certificate Examination.
Shiv Vani Model Sr. Sec. School is run by a registered society - Shiv Vani Educational Society, its members comprising eminent educationists of Delhi. At the helm of affairs of the institution are Founder Chairman Sh. B. D. Narula and the Manager Smt. Sneh Narula. Overcoming the teething troubles of the early years, the two stalwarts have nurtured the institution with tireless efforts and dedication aided & supported by the zealous commitment of the faculty.
The School has emerged as the pre-eminent institution in Palam & Dwarka in the South-West part of N.C.T. of Delhi setting newer & higher standards of excellence in all fields-be it academics, sports, athletics, fine arts, music, dance or community service. The school curriculum up to class VIII is based on the recommendation of N.C.E.R.T. this covers the following subjects : English, Hindi, Mathematics, Science, Social Science, EVS, Sanskrit, Drawing, Physical/Health Education, Value Education, Life Skills, Environment Education and G.K. from class IX to XII, courses prescribed by the central Board of secondary education are taught. The school imparts education in 3 streams viz. Science (Medical & Non-Medical), Commerce and Humanities with the following subjects.

Infrastructure
The building of the school is well designed and provides all the facilities to the students. The classrooms are big, spacious and airy which are also enabled with the facility of smart classes.
Library
The school library provides a conducive atmosphere for reading, it’s a well and the stock of reading material find patronage among both the students and the teaching faculty of the school. The library is regularly updated and it caters to the full extent of the requirement of the teachers and students. Besides numerous encyclopedias, and reference books, the library subscribes to several magazines and journals viz: India Today, The week, Outlook, Competition Success Review, Competition Success (G.K.), Junior Science refresher, Business Today, Education Today, Science reporter, Herald of health, Reader’s Digest, Champak, Society, Time, Front Line, Money Outlook, Children’s World, Scientific American, Geography etc.
Science Laboratories
The school boosts well maintained and fully equipped science laboratories which cater to the needs of the students. These include Biology Lab, Physics Lab, Chemistry Lab and Mathematics Lab. They are places where students can carry out the experiments as per the curriculum that is followed in the school.
Computer Lab
Keeping in view the needs of the future and the evident necessity of computer knowledge, the school lays stress on computer as a compulsory part of the curriculum from class two onwards. A fully equipped computer lab with hi tech systems is maintained by the school in the interest of the students.
Audio Visual Room
The school has audio visual room which is used at times for the entertainment and educational needs of students.
Auditorium
The school has well furnished auditorium with latest audio and video equipments. The area is used for holding various seminars and celebrating various events and festivals.
Arts Room
An Arts room is in the school, where the students are encouraged to be innovative and creative. The students are free to go as creative as they want.
Music Room
There is a music room in the school which helps in developing the musical intelligence of the children. Children are taught in depth about the music and they are also taught to play various instruments depending on their abilities.
Dance Room
There is a dance room in the school which helps in developing the dancing skills of the students. Children are trained in different forms of dances that include different classical and western dance styles.
Science Park
The school also maintains a science park in the school. In the park, various setups and experiments are conducted before students to make them aware with use of science in their daily lives.
Book Store
The school has a book store where all the books, note books and stationery items prescribed by the school are available at concessional rates. The store provides quality note books, other stationary items and school uniform. Buying books and uniforms from this store is not compulsory.
Canteen
The school canteen is run on hygienic principles to meet the requirement of children of all age groups.
Games & Sports
Games & Sports are an integral part of education and a great deal of emphasis is laid on this aspect in this institution. The school provides various disciplines of games and sports such as:
The school has a qualified Doctor and a full time nurse on its roll who maintain through medical check up once a year and the reports are sent to the parents for their information and medical measures. Treatment for minor ailments and injuries and immediate injection against tetanus are catered to as and when required.
The school has a fully equipped clinic (Medical Room) with four beds & almost all equipment required for immediate first – aid. However, in case of any emergency the students are taken to the nearly hospital/clinic under intimation to the parent.
Transport
The school has a fleet of sufficient buses/vans, for the conveyance of children. These buses ply on almost all routes catering to the need of students of all classes staying in and around Dwarka, Janakpuri, Hari Nagar, Maya Puri, Vikas Puri, Delhi Cantt & Palam, provided the seats are available. Pupils using buses are picked up from and dropped at the stop fixed by the school. No new routes or stops are introduced unless it warranted by sufficient demand and does not affect the existing bus users.
